On September 8, 1944, God allowed Dorothy Mae Boyd Wallace to grace this world to do His work and impact the lives of many people.  Dorothy was the third daughter of thirteen children born to the late Otis, Sr. and Leola Simpson Boyd in Sharon, South Carolina.  God lovingly took Dorothy home to be with Him on Friday, November 16, 2018.

Dorothy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a very young age and began pursuing her education with purpose and determination.  After high school, Dorothy and her “soulmate,” James, were united in holy matrimony in September 1961.  She was a devoted wife and mother during their 57-year marriage.  From this union God blessed Dorothy and James with three wonderful children: James Sterling, Dorothy Annette, and Kirkland Jermain.

Dorothy and James lived in Vienna, Virginia for many years.  There, Dorothy obtained a Professional Career Development degree from James Madison University, which supported her business/office management responsibilities for the Vienna Refuse Residential and Commercial Service.  Above and beyond was Dorothy’s dedication and mission to helping others in need, which was apparent as she also received a Home Nurse Aide certification for South Carolina where she was dedicated, dependable and faithful to her clients.  She was truly a woman of integrity and she had a deep commitment to her family, friends, and associates.

Dorothy’s compassion, generosity, selflessness, mentorship and humor were part of her wonderful personality…And she was also a great cook!  Dorothy Mae Wallace, affectionately known as Mom, Mama “D,” Auntie, Sis, and Mrs. Wallace, always had an encouraging word to share.

Dorothy, in addition to her parents, is preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Boyd and Mary McCally, and a brother, Otis Boyd, Jr.

Dorothy leaves to honor and cherish her memories: her loving husband, James Wallace; children, James Sterling Wallace (Tina) of Chantilly, VA, Dorothy Annette Wallace of Manassas, VA, and Kirkland Wallace of York, SC; seven grandchildren: Darlene, Margarita, Lakeshia, Jamal, Tasha, Danica, and Joshua; six great-grandchildren; eight sisters and brothers: Odessa Cross (Jerry) of Orange, NJ, Rosa Brooks (Ronald) of Sharon, SC, Thomasena Ellis of Haymarket, VA, Ruth McClure of Sharon, SC, William Boyd (Brenda) of Hendersonville, NC, Joyce Everette (John) of Sharon, SC, Susan Fortenberry (Larry) of Morrisville, NC, and Steven Boyd of Sharon, SC; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
