Mrs. Dorothy Cobb, 86, of York, South Carolina was born March 11, 1940 in Sharon, South Carolina to the late Eugenia McCleave and John Richard Feaster. Affectionately known as “Dot,” she departed this life on April 14, 2026 at home, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service and dedication to her family and community.
Dorothy was educated in the York School District and was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School, Class of 1959. She went on to dedicate over 30 years of service to the York School District One as a Teacher Aide and ISS Proctor. Known for her firm but caring nature, her classroom earned the nickname “Cobb County,” a testament to her reputation as a strict disciplinarian who deeply cared about her students’ success. Mrs. Cobb retired in 2005.
Mrs. Cobb especially loved to play Bid Whist and seek and find puzzles, read books and listen to Church music. She always supported the community Back to School Drive and dance and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. Dot was additionally known for making her “Honey Bun Cakes” for her family and the community.
At an early age, Mrs. Cobb accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, beginning her membership at St. John Baptist Church in Sharon, SC, then later moving to Fishing Creek Baptist Church in York, SC. Over the years, she served on the Usher Board at St. John, and as Chairman of the Pastors Aide and Assistant Secretary of the Hymn Choir at Fishing Creek. She was also a member of the Shepard Fold Lodge #22 of the A.P.&B. Society and Hopewell Union Cooperative Charity #3.
A committed community servant, Dorothy was a Silver Life Member of the Western York County NAACP and the Optimist Club. She remained actively involved in community affairs throughout her life. She was well known and respected by many for her strength, wisdom, and unwavering presence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Cobb; daughter, Shirley Feaster Wilmore; Parents: John Richard Feaster and Mr. & Mrs. Robert W. Good (Eugenia); sisters, Frances Jones and Mary R. Hughes; brothers, Ernest Jones, Johnny Love, Jr., and Pete Jones; two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Good and Marilyn C. Good; a brother-in-law, Wilmer Adams; and a great-granddaughter, Keiani Nevaeh Scherer.
Left to cherish loving memories are one daughter, Carol R. Jones (Greg) of Shelby, NC; one son, David L. Cobb (Sheila) of Gastonia, NC; her stepmother, Isabelle Jones of York, SC; her grandchildren: Chauncey Barnette, Brandy Sherer, Monterius Wilmore, Shirley Anika Jones, Gregory “A.J.” Jones, Shandon Cobb (Jessica), Qadry Cobb, Devin Johnson, and Demirah Friday; her great-grandchildren: Aneisha Torbit, Nakari Heath, Janiah Barnette, Ni’Siere Williams, Brandon Wade, Zariyah W. Reynolds, Montrice W. Reynolds, Leilah Rose Dowding, Emyrn Jones, Monterius Wilmore, Jr., Jayce Friday, and Jayden Friday; her great-great grandchildren: Ryan Honey, Raylan Torbit, Azaylie A. Morrison and Amias Heath; six sisters, Barbara Good of York, SC, Barbara Jones of York, SC, Alice Adams of Rock Hill, SC, Josie Lowry (Tim) of York, SC, Rachel Gaddy (Henry) of Fayetteville, NC, and Patricia Hyman; six brothers, James Feaster of York, SC, Howard Good of Charlotte, NC, Fred Good of York, SC, Terry Jones and Jerry Jones both of York, SC, and Freddie Jones of Union, SC; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
