Doris Elizabeth (Feemster) Jackson

Mrs. Doris Feemster Jackson, formerly of Sharon, SC, departed this life Sunday, August 11, 2019 at her home in Hollis, NY.  Born December 24, 1933 in York, SC, she was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Falls Feemster.

Funeral services will be 2:30 pm, Sunday, August 18, 2019 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Sharon, SC with Apostle John T. Brown officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the funeral home.

Doris graduated from Jefferson High School in York, and attended Friendship Junior College in Rock Hill, where she was Miss Friendship.  After graduation, Doris moved to New York.  She completed her Bachelor's of Science degree at the College of New Rochelle.  She later worked as a social worker until her retirement in 2002. 

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a longtime deaconess at Corona Congregational Church, and later at New Covenant Church of Christ (Baptist).

Doris loved to travel, and went all over the world, making stops in China, Russia, Greece, Spain, Africa, Hawaii, and Australia being some of her favorites.

She was married for 54 years to Wendell H. Jackson.

Preceding her in death is her beloved daughter, Michelle Kilgore; a sister, Mary Wright; and three brothers, Thomas F. Feemster, Sr., Shelton Feemster, and Donald Feemster.

Surviving to cherish loving memories are her husband, Wendell; a son, Nigel Jackson; her brother, William Dezet “W.D.” Feemster, Jr.; five grandchildren, Kenneth, Yasmin, Amanda, Mykel, and Jameelah; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
