Mr. Deret Lee Burris, 57, of 4075 Hord Road, Sharon, South Carolina departed this life on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Born July 3, 1961 in York, Deret was a son of Daisy McKnight Burris and the late Lawrence Burris, Jr.
He joined St. Luke #1 Baptist Church early in life and worked various jobs as a laborer in the heating and air industry after graduating from York High School.
An avid horseback rider, Deret was a people person who never met a stranger. His infectious smile captivated many hearts, and he made many friends with his authentic genuineness and kindness.
Preceding him in death in addition to his father are two brothers, Lawrence, Jr. III and Bryant Burris.
Surviving to cherish fond memories are his mother, Daisy McKnight Burris; five brothers, James Burris, Marshall Burris, Robert Burris, Ishmeal Burris, and Dwyane Burris; three sisters, Mary Douglas, Linda Sanders, and Leslie Burris; a special friend, Patricia Neely; three stepchildren, Shonta Neely, Monta Neely, and Chelsey Neely; six nieces, Tomiko, Calandra, Sabrina, Pilar, Torinetta, and Brittney; seven nephews, Colvin, Calvin, Jerrail, Maurice, Jordan, Jerrald, Ishmeal, Jr., Shelton, and Sherwaun; thirteen aunts; eight uncles; two very special cousins, Malika Bryant and Charlie Mobley; twelve great-nieces; eleven great-nephews; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Wilson Chapel AME Zion Church in Sharon, SC with Rev. Forrest Woodard officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in McConnell, SC.
The family will receive friends at a walk-thru on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the funeral home.
