Danny Ray Davis

Mr. Danny Ray Davis, 63, of 12030 Portobello Way, Charlotte, NC, departed this earthly life on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at home.  Born January 16, 1957 in York, SC, he was a son of John T. and Laddie Mae Mills Davis. 

Graveside funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC with Rev. Reginald McClean officiating.  ** COVID-19 Precautions will be observed at both the cemetery and the Funeral Home*** The family will receive friends at a walk-thru from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at the funeral home.  Please wear face masks and our facility can only hold 50 people at all times (Strictly enforced!).

Interment will follow immediately after graveside services.

Danny Ray Davis

Danny Ray Davis, “Bee”, Daney, D-Ray, Double D.  He answered to them all and usually with a smile. Danny was born on January 16, 1957, in York, South Carolina, to the late John T. Davis and Laddie Mae Davis.  Danny finished his journey here on earth and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 24, 2020.

Danny graduated from York Comprehensive High School in 1977.  During his time at YCHS, he excelled in football, basketball, and track. It was in those halls that he made memories and friends that would last a lifetime.   Immediately following graduation, Danny joined the US Army, serving six years reaching the rank of Sergeant.  In 1983 Danny joined Asplundh Tree Expert, LLC as a groundperson.  He was promoted several times during his 35-year career and enjoyed training and mentoring new employees.  Danny retired from Asplundh in March 2018 as a General Foreperson. 

Danny loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing the Word of God everywhere he went. He joined Fishing Creek Baptist Church at an early age. Later moving to Charlotte, NC, he was a faithful member of Nations Ford Community Church where he served as Deacon, Usher Ministry Leader, Discipleship Training Facilitator, Life Enrichment Facilitator, basketball coach and various other ministries. Danny returned home to Fishing Creek in 2018.  Danny was a man with a big heart and a joyful spirit. He was not only a servant of God; he truly loved God’s people and was willing to help anyone that he could.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Juanita Davis.  

Left to cherish fond memories are his loving wife of 35 years and friend Marsha Kennon Davis; his children: Tyler A. Davis of Foster City, CA, Myles R. Davis (Vanessa) of  Fort Meade, MD, and Danielle Davis of Charlotte, NC; His siblings: James Mills of Gastonia, NC, John Davis of Clover, SC,  Laney Davis of York, SC, Fletcher Davis of York, SC, David Davis of York, SC, Gregory Davis of York, SC, Martha Davis of York, SC, Peggy Gore (Robert) of York, SC, and Monica Davis of York, SC; His extended family: brothers, James Simpson (Jackie) of Charlotte, NC, John Floyd (Paradise) of Charlotte, NC, sister, Sandra Hagins of Rock Hill, SC, and the entire Simpson family as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
