Daisy Bell (McKnight) Burris

Mrs. Daisy Bell McKnight Burris, 84, of 4075 Hord Road, Sharon, SC departed this earthly life Friday, September 27, 2019 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC.  Born January 11, 1935 in Sharon, she was a daughter of the late Jess and Lillie Brown McKnight.  She was the widow of the late Lawrence Burris, Jr.

She joined Wilson Chapel AME Zion Church at an early age in life, and served faithfully as a Deaconess, Hymn Choir member, Special Education Worker, and Kitchen Committee Chair until her health failed.

Educated in York Public Schools, Daisy worked for many years as a nurse’s assistant and home health care provider.  She also worked for Cannon Mills for many years.  Throughout her work in various areas, she met and loved so many people that she became instant friends, friendships that lasted her entire life.

In addition to her parents and husband, Daisy is also preceded in death by three sons, Lawrence Burris, III, Deret Burris, and Bryant Burris; five siblings, Claude McKnight, Samuel McKnight, Jesse Lee McKnight, Eliza Easter, and Lucille Bennett; and a grandson, Dwayne Burris, Jr.

She leaves to cherish loving memories three daughters, Mary Douglas (John) of Sharon, SC, Linda Sanders of Clover, SC, and Leslie Burris of Sharon, SC; five sons, James Burris, Marshall Burris, and Robert Burris all of Sharon, SC, Ishmeal Burris and Dwayne Burris both of York, SC; three sisters, Dorothy Bryant of Catonsville, MD, Carrie Wade of Silver Springs, MD, and Rev. Christine McCoy of Sharon, SC; three brothers, Ernest McKnight (Mary), George McKnight (Sara), and John McKnight all of Sharon, SC.  She also leaves 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, five brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and a number of special people in her life: a niece, Pinkey Thompson, and special friends, Ethel Mae Boyd, Calvin Woodard, Otis “Sonny” Byers, Bobo Miller, Dennis Reid, Thelma Smith, and Jessie Mae Glenn; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
