Mr. Charles G. Swart, Jr., 81, of York, SC and formerly of Jersey City, New Jersey, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021 at his home. He was born January 9, 1940 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Charles, Sr. and Melinda Sharp Swart.
Mr. Swart served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961, where he worked as an engine mechanic. After his service, he later worked as a police officer in Boonton, NJ.
He later retired from Lake Worth (Florida) Police Department, where he served from 1975 to 1995 as a police detective and crime scene investigator. In 1994, he was honored with an award recognizing him by his superior officers for Outstanding Police Detective.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Mr. Swart was also an expert gunsmith, even owning his own shop at one time. After moving to South Carolina, he worked for many years at Carolina Sportsman in Rock Hill, SC as one of their gunsmiths. He especially loved to service the weapons of the police officers who frequented the shop. Mr. Swart spent many years crafting tables, chairs and other furniture, exercising his status as a Master Woodsman and carver.
A loving family man, who was extremely generous with his time and resources, he would do anything for his family. He will be missed by all.
Surviving to cherish fond memories are his wife, Carol (Stockage) Swart; two daughters, Cheryl Vassallotti and Katherine Swart; a son, Eric Swart, and his wife, Tammy; three grandchildren: Jasmin Swart, Jenifer Davis, and Stefani Vassallotti; a great-grandson, Madden Snead; and a great-granddaughter, Holly Davis.
