Charles, Chuck as he was affectionately called, spent most of his early years growing up farming with his dad, George, and their large family of 12 siblings. Life was challenging, but never boring. Breakfasts were always his favorite; lots of eggs, country ham, biscuits and of course his favorte, tomatoes. Chuck was especially close to his younger brother, Ken.
After finishing the 10th grade, he left his home in Tullahoma, Tennessee and moved to Flint, Michigan and lived with his older brother, Bob, while working in a restaurant called "Cupie Burgers." The next year, he decided to move back home and farm fulltime with his dad. However, after a year of hard work and without pay, a poor season of crops, there was no profit for him and his dad to split. Necessity dictated moving back to Flint to find new employment. He was fortunate to work for the next 12 years at McDonald Dairy. He married on December 30, 1958, and was blessed to have three children from that union: Sharon, Charles and Mike. Growing tired of the dairy, he spent several months selling insurance before landing a job with General Motors. He worked the remaining years at the Flint Engine Plant, eventually retiring and moving to South Carolina with his bride for the last 27 years, Theresa, who he married on October 1, 1992.
Chuck has enjoyed the last 3 decades working outdoors, mowing grass, raising a garden with lots of tomatoes, spending time with Theresa, their family and lots of grandchildren. The last several years have been especially challenging with many health concerns. However, he was always optimistic and friendly to others. His faith in God grew stronger due to much pain and suffering; especially with the loss of both legs. He was blessed to find a new church home at Frist Baptist Church in Clover, SC.
A constant throughout his entire life has been a love of Country, Bluegrass and Gospel music. Playing his guitar and singing songs became a way for him to find relaxation and to connect with people. He lived a simple life; worked hard, loved others, enjoyed family get-togethers and kept everything in perspective by believing in and trusting God.
