“It’s Faith that lifts us up, Love that brings us comfort, and Strength that allows us to move on.”
Carrie Belle White Douglas, the seventh child of ten siblings, was born February 17, 1935 to the late Albert, Sr. and Rebecca Hope White in York County, South Carolina.
“The moment comes when earthly ties must be severed from family, friends, and acquaintances.” This moment came for Carrie Belle on Thursday morning, September 26, 2024 at her home, 807 Hunter Street, York, South Carolina.
“Belle,” as she was affectionately called by her family and friends, was the matriarch of the Douglas family. Her style, grace and beauty would brighten up any room that she entered. She was a talented cook and baker, who had a caring nature and dedication that earned her the love and respect that brings family and friends together. There is nothing on Earth like the treasure of a mother’s heart.
Belle joined the Langrum Branch Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Kitchen Committee, Usher Board and Missionary Board until her health started to decline.
In addition to her parents, Belle was preceded in death by her loving son, Freddie “Zack” Douglas; six siblings: Nancy Burris, Catherine Smith, Laura Wilson, Albert “Jim” White, Jr., Mary White Wood, and Olivia W. Jones.
She leaves behind to cherish fond memories her husband of 69 years, Fred Lee Douglas; three sons, Arthur Douglas, Billy Douglas, and Derrick Douglas; two daughters, Margaret D. Simpson and Rosa Douglas; a bonus daughter, Cecilia Stevenson; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doreatha Junious and Rosa M. White; one brother, Alexander White (Yvonne); a sister-in-law, Estelle White; a dear friend, Mary Burris; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, September 30, 2024 at Langrum Branch Baptist Church in York, SC, with Rev. Richard Pickering, Sr. officiating, and Minister Paris D. White eulogizing. Order of the Eastern Star Ceremonial Rites will begin promptly at the start of the funeral service.
