Bessie L (Floyd) Beard

Mrs. Bessie Lou Floyd Beard, 85, of 590 Barrett Road, Bowling Green, SC, departed this life Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at home.  Born October 22, 1933 in York County, she was a daughter of the late Andy and Elizabeth Tate Floyd.

Mrs. Beard was educated in York County schools, and was a member of Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church in Gastonia, NC.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Lee Beard; a son, Johnny Ray Beard; daughter-in-law, Benita Beard; and a grandson, Demarreo Beard.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are her children, Jo Ann Lowery (Waddell) of Clover, SC, Jerry Beard of Clover, SC; Ricky Beard of the home; Shelia Sanders of Clover, SC; Jackie Beard of Clover, SC, Debra B. Cathcart (Tracy) of the home; and Tyrone Beard, Sr. (Suzanne) of Clover, SC; 21 grandchildren, of which four were her special caregivers and that she helped raise: Rayven 

Sanders, Courntey Brown, Jamia Beard and Kyndal Cathcart; 27 great-grandchildren, including one she helped raise, Jaxon Beard; a daughter-in-law, Marie Beard of Gastonia, NC; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Mount Pleasant AME Zion Church in Gastonia, NC.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 11:30 am to 12:00 Noon, prior to the service.
