Ms. Bertha Zorada McCleave , 98, of 103 Pinckney Street, Clover, SC departed this Life, Sunday, November 29, 2020, surrounded by family in her home. Born January 21, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Hattie Meeks McCleave.
She attended public schools in York County. Bertha was a domestic worker for several years; later she worked for over 20 years at Marion Yarn Incorporation, where she retired.
Bertha was a dedicated lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, where she served faithfully on the Kitchen Committee and the Missionary. She was also a member of the Church Aid and Friendly Aid Societies. Her favorite pastimes were cooking and baking. Bertha also loved to look after children.
During her illness, Bertha was cared for in the home by her nieces- Sheila McDowell, Frances McDowell, Neesheotta Duff, Chimeeka Williams, Najayla McDowell, and Zy'Ashia McDowell.
Bertha’s favorite sayings was “This old soldier almost made it to the top of the tree,” “If the Master say so,” and "I don't feel no pain in this old shaklee body." Her favorite song was Let the Works I've Done, Speak for Me. And her favorite scripture was 2 Corinthians 9: 10-11.
She is preceded in death by 14 siblings.
She leaves to cherish one sister Edna McDowell of Clover, SC; two special great-nieces raised in the home- Neesheotta Duff of Belmont, NC and Chimeeka Williams of Clover, SC, and one special great-great nephew Draveious McDowell of Clover, SC; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.
