Bernice (Riley) Martin

A funeral mass will be held 11:00 am, Friday, December 27, 2024 at Our Lady of Assumption in Charlotte, NC. Burial will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, December 26th at the funeral home.

Bernice (Riley) Martin, 95, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Born September 1, 1929 in Richland County, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Hiram and Frances (Bates) Riley, and widow of Billy Martin, Sr.

Mrs. Martin was a passionate teacher for over 30 years in the school district of York County. During her time there she taught at Jefferson High School and York Middle School. Over the span of three decades, Mrs. Martin taught hundreds of students and left a lasting impression on many.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her father, Hiram Riley and her mother, Frances Bates Riley; and five sisters: Edith, Dorthy, Sarah, Mildred, and Edna .

Surviving to cherish loving memories and continue her legacy are four children: Donna Rae Williams of Charlotte, NC, Billy Martin, Jr. (Jimelvia) of Toledo, OH, Charles W. Martin (Bryan) of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Ralph H. Martin of Charlotte, NC. She inspired and loved each of them. She also leaves four grandchildren: Billy, Kristina, Kristy Bernice and Kierra and 4 great grandchildren; one surviving brother, Hiram Riley Jr., along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Mom, Grandmom, Aunt Bern or Mrs. Martin were all terms she loved. The tears we shed now will be replaced with the reminiscent memories of a life well lived. SHE WILL BE MISSED!
