Obituary

Mr. Anthony "Tony" Lee VanDort, 70, of Ft. Mill, SC, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023. Born June 24, 1953 in Holland, Michigan, he was a son of Karen (Byl) Mauriello and the late Dale R. VanDort.

He is survived by his wife, Jianhua Chen; his mother, Karen (Henry) Mauriello; Children: Kai Yi VanDort, Lesli (Bill) Teed, Andrew (Lisa) VanDort; Grandchildren: Andrew, Rebecca and Hannah Teed, Tayler and Braden VanDort; Siblings: Mike (Kerri) VanDort, Dan (Becky) VanDort, Matt (Keely) VanDort, Susan (Jim) Allred, and Laurie Handwerg; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Tony would often speak with fondness about growing up in Waukazoo Woods in Holland, Michigan. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, especially if it involved being near the water. He was a jack of all trades, and could fix and build anything.

Tony was a respected pastor and spiritual leader in the Les Cheneaux community, serving for many years at Hessel Baptist Church in the upper peninsula of Michigan. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be planned for friends and family at a later date to be held in West Michigan.
