Annie (Nichols) Thompson

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Hickory Grove, SC with Rev. Frankie Smith officiating, and Rev. Andre Good eulogizing.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Saturday, January 14th at the funeral home.

Annie Lee Nichols Thompson, 88, of 964 Jason Lyle Drive, Rock Hill, SC, originally from Hickory Grove, SC gained her wings on Saturday January 7, 2023, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House. She was the daughter of the late Reavley Nichols and Queenie Hames Nichols Griffin.

She was educated in the York County School System and retired after 35+ years from Oxford Textile.

She grew up in the church and at an early age joined Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Hickory Grove, SC, and there she laid the foundation for her family’s Christian walk. She was a faithful member of the church’s Notes Choir, Hymn Choir, Stewardess Board, Missionary Department, Class Leader, Usher Board, and Conference Usher Board. In her latter 2 years she became an honorary member of Mt. Calvary AME Zion Church, Rock Hill, SC.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sons, Robbin Thompson and Tim Barber; daughter-in-law, Maria Nichols; great-grandsons, Jordan and Princeton Simpson and Giovanni Smith; sister, Lula Bell Reid and brother, John Nichols; and her best friend, Cozetta Feemster.

Left to cherish her loving memories are three daughters, Vivian Carothers (Paul) of Lake Wylie, SC, Sandra Elaine Nichols of Hiram, GA, and Renea Barber of Rock Hill, SC; two sons, Jerry Nichols of Clover, SC and Derrick Thompson of Rock Hill, SC; ten grandchildren, Corressia Davis (James), Telluss Good, Rafette Simpson, Nedra Simpson, Sharkevielle Smith (Derrick), Alexia Mia Barber, Jeris Nichols, Tanasha Clark, Timara Barber, and Jhadarria Neal; eight great-grandchildren Brianna Jennings, Ja’Len Simpson, Kennedie Davis, Danyel Davis, Derrick Smith III, Kaleb Smith, Reagan Simpson, and Arden Gilmore; brother, Bobby Nichols of Thomasville, NC and a sister-in-law, Willie Mae Nichols of York, SC.

Her special daughters Yvonne Simpson (Michael) and Sharlayne Scott (Edwin); special nieces, Peggy Reid and Janice Gwinn; close family friend, Kenyatta Long; her lifelong friend, Kay Smith; her caretaker, Cammie Miller and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
