Mrs. Annie Bell Barnette Tate, 74, of Clover, SC passed away peacefully Friday, December 15, 2018 at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, SC. Born January 22, 1944 in Filbert, SC, she was a daughter of the late Bud Pendergrass and Irene Barnette Lowery.
Funeral services will be 1:30 pm, Friday, December 21, 2018 at New Home AME Zion Church in York, SC with Rev. Dr. Carlton Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:30 pm prior to the service.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Clover, SC, Class of 1962. After school, she worked for Wix Filtration for over 20 years. She also worked in Clover School District cafeterias, and provided domestic comfort the Leroy Glenn and Cecil Stewart families of Clover for many years.
Annie joined New Home AME Zion Church at an early age, and served the church in many capacities on the Usher Board, Kitchen Committee, Hymn Choir and Finance Committee?
She loved to cook and travel. She traveled often with the AME Zion Conference and the Usher Conference, as well as Germany and the Bahamas.
Preceding her in death are her siblings: Johnnie Mae Jones, Minnie Lee Barnette, James Barnette, Alex Barnette, Theodore Pendergrass, Timothy Pendergrass, Herbert Pendergrass, Teretha Armstrong, and Hester Davidson.
Surviving to cherish fond memories are her son, Tommy Tate (P. Michelle) of Mascoutah, IL; two grandchildren, Marideth Tate and Thomas Tate; sisters, Martha Ashe, Emma Lowery, Joyce Arthur, Mozelle Adams, Eliza Pendergrass, and Martha Jane Meeks; brothers, William Barnette (Mattie), Waddell Lowery, Jr. (JoAnn), and Major Lowery (Deborah); a special friend, Charlie Smith; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
