Mrs. Annie Belle Hayes Johnson, 84, of Eugene, Oregon, and formerly of York, South Carolina, departed this earthly life on Monday, August 23, 2021 at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield, Oregon. She was born March 11, 1937, a daughter of the late Reola Hayes.
Better known as “Belle” or Annie, she worked for many years as a cook at Jay’s Restaurant, and later at Dixie Poultry.
She accepted Christ at an early age, and she attended Langrum Branch Baptist Church and Hill Street Church of God for many years. She loved going to church and singing, and she LOVED fishing.
Annie could often be found saying in her later years, “when it’s your time to go, no one can change it. When it’s your time, that IS your time to go.”
In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by a son, Samuel Freeman; her husband, Joe Johnson; and three brothers: James Hayes, Louvite Dixon, and William “Shake” Hayes.
Left to cherish fond memories are her children: Johnnie Terwillegar, Mary Pendergrass, Arthur Freeman, and Isaac Freeman; a special grandson raised in the home, Darnell Pendergrass; and a host grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, September 2, 2021 at Langrum Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in York, SC. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, Wednesday, September 1st at the funeral home.
