Karen Stewart Obituary

Karen (Nana) Stewart, 66, of York, South Carolina, passed away on June 27, 2022. A survivor of both lung and breast cancer, she fought hard her whole life, and peacefully transitioned with her family surrounding her.

She was born in Wellsville NY and attended Haverling High School in Bath NY. She worked in a multitude of jobs as a waitress, bartender and nurses’ aid. She found her true calling working in assisted living as an office manager and administrator.

Karen was married to Chaz Stewart on October 21,1989. They enjoyed 36 years as best friends and partners in crime.

She enjoyed being a pool shark, crocheting, playing Farkle, and any kind of games she could find. She loved cooking for and being surrounded by her family. With each new addition to the family she eagerly crocheted a new Christmas stocking, so Santa could fill it up for her little people.

Karen is survived by her husband Chaz, sister (and best friend) Susan Twedt, brothers Carl (Lori) Jones, and Chris Jones. She was lucky enough to have 5 children- daughters Timberly (Gary) Shepard, Cathy Clark, Rebecca (Jamey Scott) Snyder, and sons Jason Schoonover and Joe (Emily) Stewart. Karen cherished her grandchildren, Olivia Clark, Marcus McClinton, Emily Shepard, Katie Shepard, Austin Snyder, Mason Snyder, Rachel Shepard, Maggie Shepard and Makayla Scott and Levon Stewart. Karen was thrilled with her great grandchildren and newest additions Zachary, Autumn, Arya, and Miyah Rose. She was a special Aunt to many, many Nieces and Nephews.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents Dick and Mary Jones, and sister-in-law Babette (Munch) Jones.

Karen will be remembered for her infectious smile, laughter, and a cold Coors light. She could often be heard saying ‘I may not be right, but I am NEVER wrong’ and ‘God is great, Beer is good and People are crazy’. She was fun loving, happy to help and ready for an adventure any old time.

At the request of the family there will be no funeral services and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to the charity of your choice.

The family of Karen Stewart wishes to thank Dr. Pourcina, and Dr. Adlahka. Without them, and their staff, she would never have been able to fight this hard for so long.
