James Carpenter, Jr. Obituary

Mr. James P. Carpenter, Jr., 78, of Rock Hill, SC passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 at home. Born December 10, 1945 in York County, he was a son of the late James Sr. and Gladys (Pratt) Carpenter.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jackie (Stover) Carpenter.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Carpenter of Gastonia, NC and Lloyd Power (Tonya) of Landrum, SC; a daughter, Laurie Loudin of Ohio; and seven grandchildren. Special thanks to Gonzo Hernandez, who was James's best friend, a great helper, and sometimes roommate, and Debra Ingram, his former co-worker and longtime friend.

Mr. Carpenter was a graduate of Rock Hill High School, a US Navy veteran and a diehard Atlanta Braves fan. He worked for many years in transportation for the SC Department of Corrections and retired as a janitorial supervisor from Catawba Nuclear Station.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
