Elizabeth (Vaughn) Jennings

Mrs. Elizabeth Vaughn Jennings, 94, of York, South Carolina departed this earthly life on 27 February 2024 at her home.  

She was born June 2, 1929 in Madison County, VA to the late Thomas Vaughn and Blanche C. Francis Vaughn. Elizabeth was educated in public school system of Washington, DC, attending Garrison Elementary, Shaw Jr. High and Cardozo High School. As a teenager, Elizabeth was baptized at Vermont Avenue Baptist Church. 

After marrying her childhood sweetheart on December 21, 1949, they were blessed with three children.  In later years, they moved to South Carolina where she became a faithful member of Galilee Baptist Church until her health began failing in 2023. 

Elizabeth loved to attend the adult Sunday School and Mid-Week service at the church because she was a person who was very involved in studying the Word of God from day to day. Not only was Elizabeth committed to studying the Word of God, but she was committed to serving the people of God. She served on the Deaconess Ministry, Musical Ministry and Missionary Ministry. She also attended training sessions of the Sandy River Baptist Association and the Baptist Convention of York and Chester. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Jennings, in November of 2015. 

She leaves to cherish fond memories her beloved children: Michael (Pamela) Jennings, Cassandra (Charles) Johnson, and Thea (Brion) Tolbert. 

Eight grandchildren: Christopher (Michelle), Heidi, Damion (Marissa), Michael Jr. (NeRiqua), Brion Jr., Denise, Alexis and Ashley. 

Fourteen great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law Benjamin (Terri) Jennings, and a host of nieces, nephews, as well as cousins, other extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be graveside at 12:30 pm, Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Galilee Baptist Church in York, SC with Rev. Charles Ashley, Sr. presiding. Burial will follow the service. 

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 2nd at the funeral home.
