Bobbie Jennings Obituary

Mrs. Bobbie (Sadler) Jennings, 81, of Gastonia, NC departed this life on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 surrounded by family in Charlotte, NC.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Liberty Hill AME Zion Church with Rev. Lawrence Ganzy presiding. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York, SC.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm, prior to the service.

Bobbie Joe Sadler Jennings was born September 28, 1942 at home in Bowling Green, SC, a daughter of the late James Edward and Martha Janie (Crockett) Sadler. She departed this life and went home to Jesus on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at the home of her daughter, Bridget L. Johnson.

Bobbie believed in education. She began school in 1948 and completed sixth grade at the local Bowling Green school near her home before transferring to Roosevelt School in Clover, SC, where she completed tenth grade. Even after Bobbie moved to Newark, NJ for better economic opportunities, she attended Essex County College from 1990-93, obtaining her GED and going on to earn an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice.

Bobbie accepted Christ at an early age. She began  serving the Lord at Unity AME Zion Church in Gaston County, NC, and remained a member there until she moved to Newark in the early 1960s. After relocating, she first joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Newark, and eventually joined Hallelujah Christian Fellowship Church in Union, NJ. In 2018, Bobbie and her beloved husband Willie decided to return to their southern roots, and then joined Liberty Hill AME Zion Church, where she served as a member of the Hymn Choir and Deaconess Board until her passing.

In addition to her parents, Bobbie is preceded in death by her twin brother, Billy Joe; six other brothers, James W. Sadler, Jasper L. Sadler, Melvin Sadler, Lester Sadler, Michael Floyd and Stanley Floyd; four sisters, Martha S. Bigger, Nell S. Pressley, Mary K. McKinney, and Mae Helen Floyd; a grandson, Khabir Jennings; and a daughter-in-law, Carnetha Jennings.

She leaves behind to cherish fond memories her husband of 63 years, Willie Lee Jennings, Sr.; two daughters, Angela J. Jennings of Gastonia, NC, and Bridget L. Johnson (Ronald) of Charlotte, NC; one son, Willie Lee Jennings, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA; five brothers, Alfonso Sadler of Dover, DE, Paul E. Sadler Sr. and Randy Tate both of Gastonia, NC, Tommy Sadler and John H. Sadler both of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Dianne Floyd of Dallas, NC; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Wynn of Chester, SC; three brothers-in-law, Larry Caldwell and Walter Caldwell both of Chester, SC, and Joe Caldwell of Newark, NJ; one goddaughter, Debbie Clark of Union, NJ; three special friends, Charlene Caldwell, Melcinia Barcliff, and Dorothy Baker; one special niece, Marilyn Pierre of Newark, NJ; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
