Mrs. Ruby Mae (Cooke) Petty, affectionately known as the "Pie Lady", of 416 N. Highland Street, Gastonia, NC passed away Monday, August 6, 2018.  Born April 18, 1940 in York County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Fannie Walker Cooke.

Funeral services will be 2:30 pm, Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Wright Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Uniondale Cemetery in York, SC.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 prior to the service.

Mrs. Petty was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Gastonia, and attended church at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Bowling Green from a young age.

She was a full time homemaker and domestic, caring for her own family and several other families in the Gastonia area.  In addition to homecare, she had an entreprenurial spirit--maintaining a booth as "The Pie Lady" at the Dallas Flea Market for over 20 years, and was affectionately known as the "Candy Lady" when she lived in the Highland Hills Apartments.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Alisha Fannie Petty, and sixteen siblings.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are her children, Arnetta Cooke of York, SC, Charlene Moore of Rock Hill, SC, Robert Frederick Cooke of Greensboro, NC, Janice Petty Williams (Ivory) of Gastonia, NC, and Douglas Petty of Gastonia, NC; ten grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Jenkins of Washington, DC; a brother, Joseph E. Cooke of Gastonia, NC; three sisters-in-law, Blanche Cooke of Gastonia, NC, Ernestine Cooke of Gastonia, NC, and Bennie Cooke of San Fransisco, CA; two special nieces, Patricia Thomas of High Point, NC and Delois Woods of Detroint, MI; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
