Mr. Charles Latta, of 1305 West McConnells Highway, McConnells, SC, departed this life Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, August 4, 2018 at West End Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC with Rev. Terry Wiley officiating, and Rev. Rogerlene Sanders eulogizing.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to Noon prior to the service.  Burial will be private with the immediate family at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church Cemetery in McConnells, SC.

Charles Otis Latta was born in York County, SC to Mrs. Lizzie Parks Latta Thompson and the late Marion Otis Latta.

After high school, Charles furthered his education at York Technical College, earning his Associates Degree.  He was employed at Celanese Corporation in Charlotte, NC for several years. Charles later retired from Duke Energy in York County.

Charles was a faithful member of the Holy Sanctuary Church in McConnells.  He was a devoted Bible study teacher, Sunday school teacher, and a leader of the youth ministry.  Charles was not only a true servant of God, he served as a father figure and mentor to countless numbers of others.

He coached the Carolina Stompers Girls Basketball team and the McConnells Bulldogs Baseball team. Charles, himself, was a former baseball player for the Charlotte Bombers, wearing jersey #5. Coach Latta loved coaching, but more importantly, he loved the youth. He devoted countless hours encouraging them in every aspect of life.  His loyalty, strong values, and commitment to the betterment of all around him was his life's work. Charles' strength and endurance, while he battled with Parkinson's, inspired us to never give up.  He had a loving spirit and his humble presence will be greatly missed. His legacy will live on for years to come.

While some called him pawpaw, others called him daddy. One called him son and that One called him home. His brother, Eddie Marion Latta, preceded him in death.

Left to reflect on his loving memories are his loving wife, Chenna Faulkner Latta; his sons: Charles (Jackie) of Charlotte, NC; Reginald (Ruquiyah) of Chicago, IL; Suron (Teshia) of Fort Mill, SC and Colin of Charlotte, NC; and his daughters:  Iris (Carlus) of Charlotte, NC; Ashley (Dentavious) of Rock Hill, SC and Ivory of Atlanta, GA. Charles also leaves two brothers: Gary (Betty Ann) and Melvin and three sisters: Lucinda, Catherine and Angela (Charles), as well as his beloved mother-in-law: Lillie Faulkner; his brother-in-law: Frank Faulkner (Mary) and sister-in-law: Lillian (Lois) Bogle. Charles’ nine grandchildren are Charlton (Asia); Laila and Nadia; Ashton, Jordan and Cynthia; Collin, Christian and Cameron; one great grandchild, Talen and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
